The Benefits of Polished Floors versus Carpet

1. Health: Carpets are a factor in the aggravation and triggering of asthma and allergic reactions.

2. Maintenance: Floorboards are easy to keep clean – a broom or mop will do the trick.  Carpeted floors require constant vacuuming.  This involves time assembling, disassembling, vacuuming (which takes much longer than sweeping) and shampooing.

3. Costs: Carpets are costly and will need to be replaced due to wearing and fading.  Floorboards are hardy and may last for decades.  There is no need for vacuum cleaners, carpet deodorisers or steam cleaning.  You save on electricity, parts, bags, the purchase of cleaning products and the hiring of steam cleaners.

4. Dirt: Carpeted floors gather dirt that can’t completely be removed.  Polished floors can easily be cleaned.

5. Durability: Carpets, in general, do not last as long as the floorboards they rest on.

6. Environmental: Used carpets and underlays add to our landfill.  Vacuuming and steaming uses energy and water.  A broom and mop uses only human energy
